Glenfeliz has volunteer readers who visit our classrooms. For 3rd grade, each week, Mr. Raf Mauro reads to Mrs. Villalobos’s room and Ms. Antonia Jones reads to Mrs. Marks and Mrs. Villalobos’s rooms. They are volunteers from the BookPALS program through the Screen Actors Guild. I really like Ms. Jones’s visits. She always picks interesting and funny books. I also like her good expressive voice.
Ms. Jones read a book called Sweet Tooth by Margie Palatini. It was a funny book, and it taught me a lesson to not eat too much sugar. The story was about a boy who had a sweet tooth that only liked to eat candy. The boy was getting tired of dealing with the tooth’s attitude. So he ate a bunch of vegetables and soon that sweet tooth got loose and came out!
Another book read to us was The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt. The story was about how a boy’s crayons complained and did not like being used so much. One of the crayons had its paper cover taken off and it became naked. All the crayons decided to quit! You’ll have to read the book to find out the ending.
Ms. Jones sent Mr. Daywalt some of our drawing about his book. He wrote back to us and said that the crayons loved our drawings. It was exciting to hear from an author! It is fun to have Ms. Jones read and discuss books with us.
