BEACHWOOD CANYON–Four “storybook style” bungalows on North Gower St. in Beachwood Canyon have been approved for local historical-cultural monument status.
The rental units, located at 2488, 2490, 2493 and 2494 No. Gower, were approved by the Los Angeles Dept. of City Planning in December. Historical-monument status is granted to iconic properties according with historic pesonages or other significance.
The bungalows were building 1921 and 1923. The unique architecture, featuring gabled roofs and molded parapets around a central courtyard.
Judy Marks, a private citizen, entered the buildings in nomination. “Small bungalow groups are a rapidly-disappearing type of housing in Hollywood,” she said.
Marks could not provide an estimate on the number of historic properties in Beachwood.
