Both 2024 and 2028 Olympics to Be Decided in Sept.
The International Olympic Committee voted unanimously today to award both the 2024 and 2028 Summer Olympics simultaneously in September, meaning Los Angeles is certain to be awarded one set of games, while Paris gets the other.
Los Angeles and Paris are the only two cities vying for the ’24 Games and both made formal presentations to the IOC Tuesday in Switzerland. Boston, Rome, Budapest and Hamburg had earlier expressed interest in the Games, but later pulled out of the competition.
Although early versions of the Los Angeles bid included events, including mountain biking, BMX biking and golf, those events were moved in February 2016 and there are currently no Olympic events planned for the park.
However, a spokesperson for Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s LA 2024 Bid Committee said last October that the committee still hoped to find a way to feature the park if the bid is successful.
