Fixes Coming to Silver Lake Reservoir & Rec Center

LOS ANGELES–Several new projects that aim to improve the Silver Lake Recreation Center and Reservoir Complex are underway or about to begin, Los Angeles City Councilman Mitch O’Farrell announced today.

The projects include a new fence at the Silver Lake Dog Park, a new pedestrian-activated warning beacon, the planting of 30 trees and the grand opening of the South Dam of the Silver Lake Reservoir.

“The Silver Lake Reservoir and Recreation Center are special gathering places, and I am thrilled to partner with the community on enhancements in the area,” O’Farrell said. “The work taking place over the
next several weeks will improve safety, accessibility, and help green the area and clear the air we breathe. These are all things I have fought for during my time in office, and I will continue to do so on your behalf in the years ahead.”

A new vinyl-coated fence along Silver Lake Boulevard at the dog park will replace a chain link fence, and both the small and large dog parks will be temporarily closed while construction takes place January 15th through January 26th, O’Farrell’s office said.

The new pedestrian-activated warning beacon, which is a flashing yellow light for vehicular traffic in both directions, will be installed next to the Silver Lake Recreation Center at Silver Lake Boulevard and Van Pelt Place. O’Farrell’s office said construction should wrap up by the end of the month.

O’Farrell’s office also said it is working with the Los Angeles Conservation Corps to plant 30 Chinese Flame Trees and Australian Willows along West Silver Lake Drive later this month, which will provide shade along the walking path.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is scheduled to soon open the South Dam of the Silver Lake Reservoir, which O’Farrell’s office said will provide greater access to the facility and is something the community has desired for a long time. A grand opening is set for February 10th.
