Ryu Headed to Pyeongchang for Winter Olympics
Los Angeles City Councilmember David Ryu will visit Pyeongchang, in the Gangwon Province of the Republic of Korea for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. He will depart on February 7th, arriving in Korea on February 9th, and return to Los Angeles on February 13th.
During the trip, Councilmember Ryu will meet with local officials, business owners and organizers to gain a firsthand understanding of how cities prepare and host an Olympic Games ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Councilmember Ryu will be looking at how Pyeongchang manages infrastructure, traffic, security and fiscal stewardship.
“I am honored to have a chance to visit Pyeongchang for the Winter Olympics,” said Councilmember Ryu. “I look forward to cheering on Team USA and discussing best practices with local officials for a successful and fiscally sound games.”
Included in Councilmember Ryu’s trip is meetings with the Governor of Gangwon Province and attending the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony. The trip allows a perfect opportunity to learn from Pyeongchang’s hosting and budgeting for an Olympic Games, ahead of the Games coming to Los Angeles in 2028.
No taxpayer funds are being used to pay for the trip, which is being funded by the Councilmember’s officeholder account and personal funds.
