Two Restaurants and A Bar Now Coming to Skylight Building
VERMONT AVENUE—Two restaurants and a bar are now planned for the building that houses Skylight Books and indie playhouse Skylight Theater, with a projected opening this spring, according to Edward Allen of public relations firm HQ Collective.
“The projects are moving forward and construction has begun,” said Allen. “The guys are looking for an opening in late spring. …There are always lots of factors that hold these things up, but that is our best guess as of right now.”
The trifold concept, which was initially planned to be just one restaurant, is the brainchild of restaurateur Beau Laughlin—best known for Kettle Black and Sawyer, two Silver Lake restaurants that share one kitchen—who was granted a change of use for the roughly 4,000-square-foot space from retail to restaurant last May, according to city records.
According to Allen, Doug Rankin, the former chef at West Hollywood’s Trois Mec, will run one of the restaurants. Information has not yet been released on who will run the second restaurant, the bar or what types of cuisine the eateries will serve.
The project is currently waiting on a new city permit to serve alcohol at the site after their existing permit expired in 2017. The Los Feliz Neighborhood Council voted 14 – 1 in support of that permit in December.
